A Tudor Summer Progress

I hope you can all free up your calendars because we’re going on a Tudor Summer Progress!

Well, maybe not physically but one of On the Tudor Trail’s readers is and has very generously offered to let us join him – in a cyber sense that is… Mike Glaeser is about to set off on an eight-day tour of England where he will visit many important Tudor sites. We will live vicariously through him, as he has kindly offered to update us from each location and provide us with pictures of his journey through Tudor England.

Mike is also happy to try and get any questions that we might have about the various locations answered on our behalf.

But before we go on, a little background information on our Tudor traveller.

Some of you may remember that Mike won our Remembering Anne Boleyn competition back in May with his moving and original tribute – a music box.

If you need a little refresher, you can view the video that Mike submitted here.

Mike has kindly shared the following information with us:

Mike the Tudor Traveller

I am 24 years old and currently work in the Defense Industry. Coming from a military family, I have lived across the US and in Europe. I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Business Relations but am planning to pursue a Masters in History in England next year. I have always had a fascination with medieval history and lore but I never focused on the Tudors. That all changed in 2008 when I found myself sitting in the front row of St. Peter’s ad Vincula staring at some colored tiles in the altar floor. Like many others before and after, I was captivated by a name, an era and a life cut short…

It seems that Mike and I share something else in common; our love of Anne Boleyn and Tudor history was ignited in that ancient building that has stood sentinel over London for hundreds of years – the Tower of London.

Our progress begins on Friday with a visit to Windsor Castle! From there Mike will visit the following locations:

– Hampton Court

Rooftop Tour

– Hever Castle

St. Peter’s Church

– Globe Theatre: Anne Boleyn

– St. Margaret’s

– St. Mary’s

– Whitehall ruins

– NPG

Early English Monarchs exhibition

– Victoria & Albert Museum

– King’s College

– Trinity College

– British Library

– Embankment Gardens (Whitehall ruins)

– Eltham Palace

– Chelsea FC (Go Blues!)

– Chelsea Old Church

Roper’s Garden

Sir Thomas More Statue

– Tower Hill

– Tower of London

– All Hallowed

– Leadenhall Market

– St. Dunstan

– Bosworth Battlefield

St. James, Dadlington

St. James, Sutton Cheney

How’s that for an itinerary!

If you have any questions about these locations then please post them here. I will also be updating our Facebook page with upcoming locations, so drop in regularly.

I know that you will join me in thanking Mike for kindly allowing us to ‘join’ him on his Summer Progress.

Here’s to some upcoming fun On the Tudor Trail!
