I am delighted to welcome author C.J. Sansom to On the Tudor Trail. C.J. earned a Ph.D. in history and was a lawyer before becoming a full-time writer.
He is the author of the Matthew Shardlake crime novels set in the reign of Henry VIII. The protagonist is a hunchbacked lawyer who works on commissions initially from Thomas Cromwell in Dissolution and Dark Fire and then Thomas Cranmer in Sovereign and Revelation.
Sansom’s latest novel Heartstone is set during the summer of 1545. Shardlake and his assistant Barak travel to Portsmouth on a legal case given to them by an old servant of Queen Catherine Parr.
Sansom’s novels are meticulously researched and breathe life back into Tudor England.

I reviewed this book for http://www.fictionaddict.com and really enjoyed it. The Tudor world does come alive under Sansom’s touch. I enjoyed it very much, too! Made me want to write a mystery but I fear I don’t have that sort of brain!
