Elizabeth Schuch from Immortal Longings of London recently shared with me some drawings she made of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn’s entwined initials and Henry and Catherine of Aragon’s entwined initials.
Elizabeth also drew her interpretation of Henry VIII’s initials as seen on one of Henry’s family portraits.
Elizabeth was inspired by designs found in architecture, Henry’s armour and portraiture. I especially love Henry VIII’s initials – I think the details are simply breathtaking!

Enjoy!
Should Catherine of Aragon be spelled Katherine of Aragon, since the initials shown here are H&K not H&C. Though of course, Catalina would be Catalina not Katalina, wouldn’t it? Lovely site, I’ve book marked it as it’s sure to be a place I enjoy visiting.
I just noticed… If this is drawn from an extant carving, it says quite a lot about Henry. Look at the vine/rope linking the two initials. It seems to emanate from behind the crossbar of the ‘H’ and through the crossbar of the ‘A’, chaining one to the other. The twining of Katherine and Henry are on a more equal footing. Interesting.
