I have but such a little neck…

Queen Anne Boleyn

I wanted to share with you this very moving poem written by Lynne Edwina Pearce. A lovely addition to our ‘Remembering Anne Boleyn’ section.

If you have written a poem or fictional piece about Anne that you would like to share, please contact me.

Thank you Lynne!

I have but such a little neck,
My hands they do entwine
Will tears fall and wails be heard,
From others in my line

I've had my use, I failed the test,
Now cast aside am I,
Abandoned in these prison walls,
And left alone to die

Memories flash before me,
As my weary eyes do close
Images of happy times,
And the secret no one knows

What secret you are asking,
Then I shall tell you more
I fear not death, but welcome it,
For pain will be no more

I will gently stroke my babies head,
And from above will see
Her grow and shine and reign with ease
For she is strong like me

My babies lost will comfort me,
So I am not alone
And others so accused with me
Will see their bodies grown

Within this dark and dismal place
There lurks a darker force
Fear and hate stick to its walls
And death its only cause

Will the sun shine down on me,
Or will the rain appear
A storm may hover overhead
And thunder you will hear

No matter what my last day brings
The truth one day will show,
I died a chaste and innocent Queen
For I the truth do know
