My judge’s report:
My goodness! In truth, this year’s contest not only set out before me a feast of
wonderful stories to read, but I also ended up with quite a bellyache trying to
decide on the second place getter. But there was never a question in my mind about
what story deserved first place. A very original, fascinating and well researched
story, A Skeleton of a Ship in the Ghost of Water not only engaged me from beginning
to end, but also, well and truly, gave me the shivers.
I put four stories in my short list for second place. All of them were utterly
impressive examples of stories birthed from knowledge of a time long gone and
historical personages of the past. Finally, I decided our second place getter had
to go to MY KINSMAN THE HEADSMAN because this story both touched me and offered our
competition the most unique tale. But I loved my short list so much the Tudor Ghost
Story I decided that two of the stories deserved to be acknowledged by being
awarded Highly Commended. I have no doubt that Natalie will agree with me and we
will see The Past Haunts and The Embrace of Eternity also published on her
brilliant Tudor website.
Lastly, I really want to thank everyone for their stories. It was a privilege to
read them and honour to judge works that sang an ode to the passion we all share
for history. Please keep writing – and remember to enter the Tudor Ghost Story
contest in 2016.

“…The Light in the Labyrinth is quite the read – no matter the age of the reader.
And yes, thanks to Kate, a new voice has been added to the well-known haunting
melody – a voice that mellows and matures as the story evolves and yet retains a
touch of bittersweet innocence right to the bloody, inevitable end.” – Anna Belfrage

Great stories, enjoyed them very much.
Thanks so much for considering my story! I’m really happy to have entered the contest and congrats to everyone ~
