Queens Know Best: survival lessons from powerful historical women by Estelle Paranque.
This was a beautiful interview. I found the exploration of Elizabeth I’s personality throughout the different periods of her life fascinating and appreciated greatly Dr. Paranque’s intimate understanding of her subject and how it has–as Natalie Grueninger so beautifully stated it–evolved, as has the relationships all of us share with these historical subjects over time. Within these years of acquaintance with Elizabeth I, Dr. Paranque does not carry forward an idealized view of her queen, but because of Q E 1’s natural qualities, Paranque is able to hold fast to her respect for Elizabeth’s accomplishments along with her failures and sees them as a glorious whole. I deeply respect this view and greatly enjoyed this insightful discussion!
